MASTERING @ TONI WAVE

This is your chance to finish your mix with a unique mastering flavour that imparts sweet analog depth and glue to your music.

Single track, EP or album mastering with a unique blend of perfectly merged and gain-staged analog vintage gear and the best oversampled digital tools. A master at TONI WAVE can easily run through 10 vintage transformers and inductors. This setup is not meant for every music style. But when it shines, there’s nothing like that on the market.

We master all kinds of independent music, afrobeat, jazz and experimental. If a tune doesn’t aesthetically match our mastering chain, we’ll kindly recommend you other mastering colleagues that we trust. Check Soundscapes for full equipment overview.

Some analog insides.

At TONI WAVE we developed a special signal chain that came out as a result of years of experimenting, listening and inspiration. Our most used analog chain in mastering is a Mid-Side configuration that starts with two RCA BA-2 or two TAB V376 preamps that are fed from the analog gain stage of the Metric Halo MkIV converters, delivering the MS-decoded signal. This is the first crucial point of coloring and gain staging. I can now individually push the preamps’ input or the output to saturate the following transformer-based devices.

The mid-signal usually goes into a unique combination of a 1950’s passive Langevin EQ 258-A inductor equalizer, which offers the most gorgeous low end and air band, followed by a vintage Neve 1272 make up gain stage with the legendary Marinair transformers.

The mid signal might follow an Highland Dynamics BG-2 and Electrodyne 511 inductor equalizer before hitting a Siemens V276 preamp in line mode to feed back to the Metric Halo MkIV line input and AD converter.

The side signal of this setup, fed from the other TAB V376 with its fantastic sounding transformers and inductor high-pass filter, reaches a TAB W95c Germanium inductor EQ that has an ultra vibey mid-range, shiny top end and fantastic saturation capabilities. Next stage of the side signal might be another Electrodyne 511 EQ and finally another Siemens V276 preamp in line mode into the Metric Halo. This setup is just an example. But it’s time-proven in excellent results from subtle to saturated.
